Hospice of Lenawee relies on Volunteer support to provide excellent end-of-life care to each patient and family. By becoming a hospice volunteer, you will gain great personal satisfaction from knowing that you have made an impact on another person’s life.
If you would like to speak with someone about volunteering contact Paula Robinson, Director of Volunteers, at 517-263-2323 or e-mail probinson@hospiceoflenawee.org Types of Volunteer Opportunities Direct Care Volunteer Some examples of typical direct care volunteer duties include: - Being a comforting and supportive presence - Listening to patient’s concerns - Engaging in patient’s hobbies - Running errands or doing light housekeeping - Encouraging the patient to tell their story - Offering time for the caregiver to take care of him/herself, run errands etc. - Providing social visits for hospice patients in extended care facilities Office Staff Volunteer Hospice relies on volunteers to help with administrative work as well. These duties may include: - Receptionist activities - Data entry - Mailings and photocopying - Fundraising activities Bereavement Volunteer - Assists Bereavement Staff with office tasks - Provides companionship visits to family members who have lost a loved one - Helps with Bereavement events, support groups, or meetings Who Can Volunteer? Emotional maturity plays an important role in determining whether or not a person is ready to become a hospice volunteer. The role of a volunteer can be an intense experience. If someone is grieving a loss, hospice recommends waiting one year before becoming an active volunteer. Hospice Training All volunteers receive training to ensure they feel comfortable with their tasks. Training programs are 25 hours and offered several times throughout the year.
