Hospice of Lenawee Reaches $3 Million in Their Quest to Build a Hospice Home A $25,000 commitment received today has helped push Hospice of Lenawee’s Capital Campaign over the $3 million mark. The current campaign total with gifts and pledges is just over $3-million toward a $5-million goal. Bill Kenyon, Hospice of Lenawee's President and CEO, said, "We are extremely grateful to all of our faithful supporters of this very important project. This has truly become a community driven campaign, with gifts from over 220 donors in Lenawee County and beyond. We have never questioned our decision to build this new residence; however, it is confirming to receive such commitment from so many." The Campaign for Hospice of Lenawee began in 2008 when the Hospice of Lenawee board of directors felt that it was the right time to make building a residence for those patients that could truly benefit by having the option of 24 hour care close to home a reality. After receiving the results from an independent research company specializing in hospice, the organization moved forward in its fundraising efforts. Included in the plans are an eight bed in-patient residence, a bereavement center and administrative center. The decision to move Hospice of Lenawee’s current operation to the new residence was based upon the growth they have achieved over the last decade. Hospice of Lenawee cares for an average of 75 patients per day, an increase of nearly 100% since 2005. The overall Campaign goal is $5-million. Kenyon explained, “Ground was broken in September of 2010 and after a short hibernation over the winter months, work will begin again very shortly. We invite the community to drive by and take a look at the progress at 1903 Wolf Creek Highway in Adrian. It is exciting to see our dream of a hospice home take shape and we invite everyone to be a part of it.” Hospice of Lenawee is a non-profit community based Hospice founded in 1981. The mission of Hospice of Lenawee is to provide compassionate, patient and family centered care to the people of our community during and after the last season of life. Hospice of Lenawee is proud to announce recent CHAP AccreditationHospice of Lenawee is proud to announce its recent accreditation by The Community Health Accreditation Program, Inc. (CHAP). CHAP is an independent accrediting body founded in 1965; the organization is recognized as the leader in improving the quality of community based health care services in the USA. Accreditation has been granted to Hospice of Lenawee for compliance with CHAP Standards of Excellence after an initial application process, self-study and an intense four-day CHAP site visit.
Bill Kenyon, President and CEO of Hospice of Lenawee, says, “We have always offered exceptional care to our friends and neighbors. CHAP accreditation allows us to focus on continual improvement by adhering to standards of excellence. The affirmation we have received from CHAP allows us to show our community that our level of care is superior and we will continue to do all that we can to meet the needs of our county by providing community based compassionate care.” According to their website (www.chapinc.org), CHAP is an independent organization whose standards go above and beyond that of Medicare and other organizational guidelines. CHAP was granted “deeming authority” by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in 1992 for home health and in 1999, for hospice. This means that instead of state surveys, CHAP has regulatory authorization to survey agencies providing home health and hospice services, to determine whether they meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation (COPs). Patt Hayes, Chair of the Hospice of Lenawee Board explains, “CHAP accreditation marks an important step for Hospice of Lenawee. We are proud to say that we serve our Lenawee Community with the highest level of professional care and compassion.” The mission of Hospice of Lenawee is to provide compassionate, patient and family centered care to the people of our community during and after the final season of life.
